Bar/None Records

Record Label

Bar/None Records was started in 1986 when an Irishman with a background in pirate radio hooked up with a first wave indie rocker over a beer at Maxwell's in Hoboken N.J. The Irishman said "let's put out the best records …bar none."..and a label was born. Their first release was by said indie rocker. Their second release the debut of They Might Be Giants. Bar/None was off to the races. In the years to come they have worked with home grown acts like Yo la Tengo, the Feelies and the Front Bottoms. They also discovered Space Age Bachelor Pad Music, the sound of the Langley School Music Project and the first sonic masterpieces by Of Montreal. Lately Bar None has been knocking them out of the park with posthumous releases from the late great Alex Chilton as well as new music from youngish upstarts like Ezra Furman and Justus Proffit while newbies Rose Dorn are gathering kudos and hitting the road. Let it be known Winter is coming. The Bar/None dream machine rolls on…
