The Company
The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is a not-for-profit trade group representing independently owned recorded music companies. A2IM serves as the central voice for a diverse community of independent labels, operating within the United States with a focus on government advocacy, education, and creating business opportunities for its community. A2IM’s membership comprises more than 600 record labels including Concord, Beggars Group, Epitaph, EMPIRE, Ninja Tune, MNRK, and Stones Throw, as well as nearly 200 related music
businesses such as Spotify, Discogs, and YouTube. A2IM represents members’ interests in the marketplace, in media and tech, on Capitol Hill, and as part of the global music community.


Position Summary
The Communications & Digital Media Manager will understand market trends, create marketing strategies and budgets, oversee the creation and publication of marketing materials and content for all uses including social media, and perform all other relevant tasks essential for increasing A2IM’s public image. A2IM values trust, transparency, and professionalism — and is seeking someone who will embrace and enhance A2IM’s existing culture by communicating with integrity, embracing feedback constructively and creating collaborative partnerships with colleagues and stakeholders.

This role is equal parts strategic and organizational. The ideal candidate is a proactive and creative self-starter who will bring fresh ideas to further awareness of A2IM’s brand. The Communications & Digital Media Manager will fully own all of A2IM's marketing, social, and brand communications. They will create and execute strategies to grow email lists, develop the weekly newsletter, increase social following and engagement, and drive relevant sales. The highest level of attention to detail and efficient communication skills are imperative. The Communications & Digital Media Manager will report directly to the General Manager.

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Communications & Content
  • Develop and maintain a master communications calendar for all A2IM programs, announcements, and campaigns.
  • Coordinate information flows with all forms of media, PR firm, staff, event production, members, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Write and design weekly newsletters, member updates, press releases, news content, and program copy (Hubspot).
  • Serve as primary point of contact for A2IM’s contracted PR company, overseeing strategy, deliverables, timelines, and reporting to ensure alignment with A2IM’s messaging and goals.
  • Ensure a clear, consistent voice across platforms and audiences.
  • Draft or support talking points and remarks for leadership as needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key music media outlets and journalists.

 

Digital Media & Website Management
  • Maintain and update website content (Hubspot), including events, member resources, and news items.
  • Monitor web performance and ensure a positive, user-friendly member experience.
  • Coordinate with tech support for troubleshooting or back-end updates.

Social Media
  • Plan, create, and schedule content across A2IM’s social channels.
  • Monitor and engage with followers, artists, and partners.
  • Track performance and engagement data and adjust strategies accordingly.

 

Event Promotion & Ticketing
  • Develop and execute digital promotion plans for events, including Indie Week, Libera Awards, webinars, and networking sessions.
  • Manage communication around ticket sales and registration.
  • Ensure event messaging is clear, timely, and targeted to key audiences.

Sponsorship Deliverables & Partner Comms
  • Track and fulfill communications-related sponsorship deliverables (e.g., social tags, logo placements, newsletter mentions).
  • Coordinate approvals and content timelines with sponsors and partners.
  • Maintain meticulous records to ensure sponsor expectations are met.

Data and Analytics
  • Apply best practices including A/B testing, analyzing, and reporting on relevant metrics to inform growth strategies and improve campaign performance.

Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of experience in communications, email marketing, or digital media.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; highly skilled in adapting tone for different audiences.
  • Impeccable attention to detail with strong editing, proofreading and tech functionality checks unfailingly applied across all collateral materials and communication channels under deadline.
  • Experience with communication, marketing, and design tools (Hubspot, Canva, social media tools).
  • Passion for storytelling and a creative outlook to marketing.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and juggle multiple projects.
  • Strong internal relationship skills; able to coordinate across multiple departments.
  • Comfortable collaborating with sponsors, media, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in the music industry, or deep knowledge of independent music and the music business ecosystem.
  • Unparalleled ability to team and collaborate with all A2IM stakeholders including internal colleagues, A2IM member companies and external partners of all types
  • Willingness to embrace and enhance the existing culture by communicating with integrity, embracing constructive feedback and seeking positive paths for resolution of any differences.
  • Discerning with good judgement and ethics.

Desired Skills
  • Experience with event promotion and ticketing (Eventbrite or similar platforms).
  • Spanish language fluency.
  • Experience with scalability.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and budget management.

 

Location
A2IM is a hybrid work environment with two days a week in the office on New York City’s Lower East Side.
Attendance is required at flagship events in New York City each June. Work/life balance is respected but some
necessary out-of-hours work is required from time to time.

Compensation
Competitive salary, incentive and benefits will be offered, commensurate with the role and the final hire’s experience. Depending on the job-relevant knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, network and location of the final hire, the base salary is anticipated at an annual rate in the range of $60,000 to $72,000.
