The Income Tracker’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all income rightfully due to the company in connection with the use of its copyrights is ultimately collected. This includes conducting forensic analysis of royalty income received against expectations across all major revenue streams (mechanical, digital, streaming, performance, etc.). Amongst other duties, this role ensures the accuracy and completeness of incoming royalty data, identifies shortfalls, and proactively recovers missing revenue to maximize earnings for the company’s recordings and songs.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Forensic Analysis & Income Recovery:
- Audit & Review: Review incoming royalty statements and perform desktop audits of third-party sources (DSPs, collection societies) to ensure accuracy and compliance with contracts and copyright law.
- Gap Identification: Perform forensic analysis to identify reporting irregularities, underpayments, and "blackbox" income.
- Claim Management: Instigate back-claims, adjustments, and supplemental payment requests with revenue sources to recover missing income.
- Reporting & Data Visualization:

Management Reporting & Forecasting: Prepare regular financial reports, dashboards, and forecasts to track actual earnings against projections and prior periods.

Business Intelligence: Use BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) to synthesize large volumes of data and create actionable insights for senior management.

- Infringement & Unauthorized Use Recovery
- Infringement Identification: Actively monitor digital platforms, social media (e.g., TikTok, YouTube), and broadcast mediums to discover unauthorized, unlicensed, or infringing uses of company copyrights and master recordings.
- Settlement Negotiation: Partner directly with the Legal team to pursue infringement claims, issue takedown notices, and negotiate financial settlements or retroactive licenses.
- Settlement Tracking: Track and report on revenue recovered from legal settlements and retroactive licensing agreements.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Royalty, Copyright, Finance, and Marketing teams to resolve collection issues, understand the revenue impact of specific projects, and inform real-time business decisions.
- Process Improvement & Compliance
- Systems Optimization: Develop and improve internal royalty tracking systems and procedures to adapt to the evolving nature of music licensing.
- Data Integrity: Maintain a deep understanding of investment terms, contract metrics, and internal GL (General Ledger) recording for Net Publisher/Label Share.

Required Skills/Abilities
- Technical Proficiency
- Advanced Microsoft Excel: Experience in Power Pivot, Lookups, Macros, and complex formulae.
- Data Tools: Experience with BI tools or industry-specific platforms.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of music royalties, mechanical licensing, copyright law, and the global collection society landscape.

Analytical Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to "join the dots" across complex datasets.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings to senior stakeholders and external partners.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Music Business, or a related field.

3+ years of relevant experience in sound recording or music publishing income tracking or royalty administration.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Position Location
United States: Remote, travel may be required at least once a year.
Status/Hours
