Musicom, Inc.
Bio
Founded in New York City in 1981, Musicom is an independent music company with more than four decades of history in recorded music, artist catalogs, and culturally significant repertoire from around the world.
Originally established by founder and current owner John Matarazzo as Intercon Music Corp., the company began as a sales and marketing organization representing clients that included Columbia Records, EMI Records, and independent record labels. In 1989, the acquisition of Celluloid Records transformed the company into a full-fledged recording and music company, bringing with it a diverse roster of artists and a culturally rich collection of recordings.
Over the decades, Musicom has continued to acquire and steward pieces of important artist catalogs, building a legacy collection that crosses generations, genres, cultures, and continents. From Jamaican ska and reggae to salsa and traditional music reaching from the Caribbean to the Himalayas, the Musicom catalog reflects the extraordinary ways music can preserve culture while traveling far beyond the place where it began.
Its legacy repertoire includes recordings associated with celebrated artists such as Celia Cruz and Lee “Scratch” Perry, alongside an expansive collection of traditional and culturally influenced music from around the world.
Today, Musicom continues the independent spirit on which it was founded: valuing creativity, preserving musical heritage, and creating new opportunities for remarkable music to be discovered by new audiences. More than forty years after its founding, Musicom remains committed to the idea that great music transcends borders, generations, and language.
The catalog speaks louder than words.
